Children are a high priority in the eyes of God and in the Russian culture. The children are the church of tomorrow, and there are many opportunities for evangelistic outreach and discipleship ministries focused upon children. Through reaching children, whole families are often reached with the Gospel.
In the hearts of the people of Russia there is nothing more important than a child. In this land of broken dreams and economic hopelessness, most non-Christian families have nowhere to look for joy but to their children and their grandchildren. When the members of a local church express genuine love to the children of these families, the hearts of the grateful adults often become open for the Gospel.
And having grown up under atheistic communism during the Soviet period, many mothers and fathers, and grandparents are desperate for their children to have the opportunities to learn about God that they were denied. The Bible-preaching churches in the lands of Russia have realized the vital importance of reaching the next generation for the Lord Jesus Christ. There are numerous opportunities to help these evangelical churches reach children with the life-changing Gospel.
Specific ministries to the children of a community often also open doors for outreach to the adults. This is especially true when churches invite children to their Christmas and Easter programs, and encourage their parents and grandparents to accompany them. Seeing the church members love and bless their children, their hearts are tender when the Gospel is presented. Children are the church of tomorrow, and in Russia, they are often also the gateway to the rest of the family. From orphanages to Sunday schools to summer camps, the opportunities for reaching the children of Russia are vast indeed.
